Courses for Parents, Partners, Grandparents & Besties
Newborns can be really challenging to manage! Postpartum is a mystery for most new parents, and often the grandparents, extended families or besties that support them. Breastfeeding can be time consuming and often require extensive support. Not being able to soothe a fussy baby can really shake your confidence.
Couples can also really struggle with their teamwork— often with little help available (although a plethora of advice and information overload online). For all of these reasons, ABC Doula offers in-person and live virtual classes, as well as self-paced online courses for families that want a class on their time schedule (like when their baby isn’t crying) or if they live out of town but still want to contribute love and support.
Becoming a Grandparent
Want to get to spend the most time with a new grandbaby or family member? Learn how to be the best help to the parents who are giving their all to their tiny new human! Kimberly’s new course for Grandparents-to-be highlights all the modern newborn approaches that will help you update your wisdom and experience with the new evidence-based practices on postpartum and newborn care. Lean into connection while you support the gatekeepers of the cuteness—your grown kids or family members. This class is suitable for aunts, uncles, or any loved ones that will be coming to care for parents of newborns in the early months.
The First 5 Days
Navigating life after birth is overwhelming, but planning can make the difference! This condensed course will take you through the most impactful processes that happen after birth with your body, your baby, and your family. It is great for expectant parents, grandparents, and especially for partners who want to be supportive but don’t have models on how and what that looks like. Take this BEFORE baby comes and create a team approach to ace the first fragile week.
Understanding your Baby
You can take a class anywhere to prepare you to become a parent of a newborn. Why take ours? Clients have told us for years that they weren’t ready for how much their baby cried. That they were mystified about their baby’s movements, sounds, sleep patterns, and that they wished they would have learned more about infants beforehand. This class was created to help prepare new parents to know what is coming so they can be confident baby calmers—and also plan for who is coming to help (and when that might work best) to create more harmony in the beginning.
The Know Your Newborn class is all about how your baby will signal their needs, how you can soothe them, comfort them, and get more sleep. Kimberly has condensed down 25 years of caring for babies into a short course that will make you a confident baby whisperer.
Preparing Your Home for Baby
Meeting your doula is exciting and gives you so much peace of mind. Having your doula walk through your home and suggest products that help to organize your setup is so valuable. Our clients love getting help setting up their baby registry, staging areas of their home for efficiency, or sorting out the overwhelm of what to buy and prepare. Your doula can quickly sift through helpful vs. wasteful gear for new babies and get familiar with the layout of your home to help you right out of the gate.
Baby Care for Multiples
Expecting multiples is very different from welcoming one baby! After thousands of multiples, we have condensed down the most helpful ways to manage tiny twins and triplets for optimizing love when you are stretched thin. While Kimberly teaches a group class through Providence called TWINS AND MORE (register with Providence separately) she also offers a private class virtually via Zoom for those who can’t get to Portland to experience it hands-on or who want a more customized experience. This 4 hour private class covers all the tandem skills; holding two, tandem feeding, babywearing & customizing for premature babies.

Why Take Our Classes?
So you don’t have to waste time being overloaded on the internet searching for things you might not have even heard about, like the crying curve, paced bottle feeding, the cuddle curl, and the Safe Sleep 7. Gather all the info before you need to make decisions as a new parent or grandparent. Because we value harmony, we seek to bring this to families in our classes.
