Newborn Classes

Want to take a newborn class before your baby arrives? ABC Doula offers “ABC’s of Natural Baby Care” at Pod + Kin Studio in SE Portland (Map it). The 2012 dates for this class offering are:

February 26, March 24, April 28, June 16, August 5, October 20, December 15
(Classes are 4-hours long and held on Saturdays or Sundays from 1 – 5 p.m.)

In this class you will learn gentle ways of caring for your newborn, particularly the hands on skills needed to feel competent and confident as you welcome your new baby home. Focusing on the first weeks to early months, you will learn to swaddle, diaper, and wear your baby in style. You will even learn the ‘spa’ (read, “cry free”) bath! All are welcome but the classroom maxes out at 8 couples so be sure to register online early as these classes often fill and have waiting lists. We also offer private in-home classes (at a higher rate) if the dates don’t work or the classes are full – contact us for more info.

For our families expecting multiples, Kimberly also offers a class through Providence Health System called “TWINS AND MORE; Newborn Care and Feeding.” Registration is done through the Providence website, and classes are offered once a quarter. (Try to do this before 30 weeks gestation if possible…bed rest happens all too frequently to our families expecting more than one!)

Postpartum Doula Trainings

ABC owner Kimberly Bepler is a CAPPA Certified Postpartum Trainer, and regularly offers postpartum doula trainings in Portland and other states. These trainings are fun and interactive 2-3 day workshops that cover the basics of postpartum care, including: Breastfeeding Support, Modern Newborn Care, Family Adjustment, the Role of the Postpartum Doula, and Business Development. Those just beginning their doula career as well as those seeking to enrich their existing doula practice can benefit from these workshops.
