Meet Meigan
Certified Postpartum Doula, Lactation Educator, PMAD Volunteer, Newborn Care Specialist, Multiples Specialist
Meigan has worn many professional hats in her life, from Research Biologist to Certified Nursing Assistant, and brings all her professional talents together in the role of postpartum doula. Her background in healthcare convinced her that she wanted to pursue a role in nurturing others, however wanted an avenue that was also mom-friendly and less clinical. Specializing in lactation support (she has additional training in breastfeeding and pumping) Meigan loves to support families surrounding all aspects of lactation. She has a special place in her heart for moms who are dealing with the added weight of depression or anxiety, on top of all the typical challenges of new motherhood, and helps clients daily in overcoming anxiety and depression. Her ability to support families through lactation or mental health struggles has made her one of our most booked out doulas, so schedule her early.
More About Meigan
Meigan is also a former client of Kimberly's so she has personally experienced what a doula does and how much of a difference sleep and support can truly make—and how much a doula can lend you confidence when you are questioning yourself constantly. After suffering with postpartum depression and anxiety herself, Meigan decided to become a certified volunteer with Baby Blues Connection to offer support to other women struggling with early motherhood. (BBC is a chapter of Postpartum Support International, an organization that serves families dealing with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders--and one that ABC Doula proudly supports.)
Welcoming her first baby in New Zealand away from family and friends, Meigan struggled with a fussy and challenging new baby herself and decided to have a different experience the second time. When her daughter arrived a couple years later, she decided to have a smoother start with a larger base of support. It worked--and onward she was a believer in doulas, tucking away the idea of supporting moms until her kids were a bit older. Now that both are older teens, Meigan has more time to offer parents as they are just starting their journey to provide the care-giving that is so needed to get parents off to a great start.
In addition to doula training with CAPPA, Meigan is a Lactation Educator and has attended advanced lactation courses at PSU to further her skills and experience as she has a passion for supporting breastfeeding families, especially those who need specialized skills. She has also taken advanced training in working with multiples, and worked with multiple sets of twins, providing overnight care for their very exhausted parents.
Meigan's compassion extends to furry family members as well, as she is a true animal lover in addition to her love of babies and parents. She is a great fit for families with fur babies who want everyone to get plenty of love and affection. Meigan is available for overnight doula support, and brings her great communication skills, empathy, and kindness to build a calm and peaceful time of welcoming your baby and adjusting to newborn life. Meigan has gone from being a mom who treasured her doula support, to being that doula who can put you back to bed, take care of the practical things that stress you out, and give you delicious reasons to rest, recover and bond.
In her spare time, Meigan likes to hike and travel with her kids and husband, cuddle her cats, read mystery novels and science journals, and bake creatively. She is often busy running her kids from activity to event, living the mom dream of parenting busy and complicated teens.
Here is a review on our Google listing from a second time mama that Meigan served:
My experience with our postpartum doula, Meigan, was phenomenal. She not only provided us with high quality sleep that is unheard of during the fourth trimester but also emotional and educational support on how to get our little one to sleep better on our own, recipes for lactation and better nutrition post-birth, and advice on breastfeeding and pumping…Having her support was one of the best decisions I have ever made as a mother. I can’t praise this experience enough.
