Love is a Loop

Right?

I had a conversation with someone this week about not wanting to have kids. I get that. There is a lot of work ahead when you are expecting a baby. There is a lot of anxiety bringing that baby into the world. There is a lot of worry in raising those kids. And I won't even go into the lack of sleep...

BUT...what I think we forget to quantify when looking at becoming parents is that babies don't just sap us of our lives. They DO give back, in ways that sometimes defy the mind. Creating more capacity for love is one of those things. How can you possibly quantify how much bigger your heart is going to get?

When you fell in love, could you quantify how much better your life got by wrapping your life around your new love? Babies are like this. Their impact cannot be measured, but it changes everything. And with them comes more capacity than you had before. So it is OK to be scared. (And of course it is OK to choose not to have kids!) But it also OK to know that your heart will expand in ways that will surprise, delight and capture your heart and that you will be changed forever.
