Meet Christy
Birth & Postpartum Doula, Newborn Care Specialist, Multiples Specialist
Christy brings her depth of experience to doula work after many years of professionally working with infants. After raising 4 kids into adulthood, Christy found herself with extra time & nurturing to spare and decided that being a doula would be the perfect fit! As a lifelong lover of babies, Christy brings her comforting touch to all aspects of her doula support, and families are so reassured to have her experience, training, and especially her TLC. Focusing on overnight support, her special “baby whisperer” skills come in handy as she helps parenthood begin with peace, gentleness, and the care that a lifetime of nurturing can offer.
More About Christy
Loving both the postpartum doula as well as the NCS roles she gets to play with new families, Christy decided to focus on overnight support after seeing how much families needed the rest and recovery after birth, and how little support they had in place. She loves to come in bringing peace and calming to a new family with twins, chat with the parents before they settle in for the night, helping them be at ease while knowing she is making a nest with the babies, attentive to their every move and squeak. She loves the longer shifts when she can stay into the morning and make breakfast, set the day up for success, and allow parents to shower, eat, and start their day confidently. And she loves to answer the million questions that new parents have about feeding, sleep, and the adjustment to new parent life.
Christy is skilled and experienced in supporting multiples, premature infants, fussy babies (especially those with reflux), and helping to create sleep habits for the long term. With extensive experience with babies and little ones coming from running an in-home daycare for a decade. Christy is also at home in the kitchen, specializing in some of the meals postpartum clients remember from their childhood, especially chicken and dumplings, beef stew, mac and cheese and lasagna. When doing overnight work she can also whip up a hearty breakfast of French toast or overnight oats, and makes a mean pancake, bacon and egg breakfast. She brings all the comfort foods as she knows the value of food prepared with love.
She is particularly gentle and supportive of those working through postpartum mood disorders like depression and anxiety, and loves to support breastfeeding, exclusive pumping, and formula feeding families. Christy brings her warm auntie energy that you might expect from a wise woman who knows both how to care for babies and knows that parents need help too. She builds trust quickly, so much so that families tell us they never want her to leave.
Married to her high school sweetheart for 34 years, Christy and her husband love camping, traveling through the great outdoors, attending sporting events, and getting to visit their grown kiddos. She loves to be a part of the community she was raised in just outside of Vancouver, WA. Her heart to serve extends to working at a shelter for pregnant and parenting teens and also giving back to her community as a volunteer in several arenas.
With her first grandbaby coming in 2024, Christy anticipates her heart will expand even further, and in the meantime she gets to practice offering her nurturing energy to clients all over Vancouver and Portland. She knows when mama is happy, everyone is happy. We are so lucky to have her with us at ABC Doula, and especially love that she can offer families up to 5 nights a week with one doula, providing that trusted care consistently while getting to know a family intimately in the early days and weeks. If you are thinking this is the type of nurturing energy you want in your postpartum recovery, she books up early, so plan ahead.
