Meet Daisy
Postpartum Doula, Bilingual (Spanish & English)
One of our bilingual doulas, Daisy speaks English and Spanish and loves to support families blending their heritage with cultures from all over the world as she is doing in her new family. Growing up with her mama and abuela—and welcoming a baby sister when she was 22—Daisy learned the value of family working together, and the feminine strength that reinforced their bonds. She became a doula with us years ago, and after working for several years in the Seattle area, Daisy came back to Vancouver to share her doula skills with us again. She is now a mama of 2 little ones, and understands first hand the value of rest, nurturing, and support.
More About Daisy
Daisy began working with us years ago, as a transition from a client who treasured her as their nanny. We loved working with her as a postpartum doula as she focused on overnight support and we got to know the treasure she is. A move from Portland to Seattle resulted in her joining the doula team for Swedish Hospital which gave her additional experience working with a variety of families. Although we were sad to see her go, she met and married her husband there, and recently relocated back to the Vancouver metro area where she now raises her littles alongside her love, closer to both sides of the family. We are thrilled to have Daisy back!
Here is how Daisy describes her doula approach:
“I like showing up for woman in their most vulnerable time, and empowering them and their partner. I enjoy providing a space of comfort, and providing practical needs around the home to let the couple have a little softer landing into parenthood. I most enjoy the idea of being a magical sleeping fairy that comes in and sets up the home for success the next day. I enjoy teaching; however I believe in the mom’s innate intuition, and find it rewarding to provide a space for that to flourish.”
Experiencing homebirth with her sons, Daisy truly understands and empathizes with families recovering from a tough pregnancy, a difficult labor, or a disappointing birth or challenging baby. She experienced firsthand the demanding physical recovery that can follow unmedicated birth, and integrating how birth can be a significant rite of passage to becoming a mother and should be honored and celebrated during the early postpartum phase.
Daisy enjoys helping exhausted and overwhelmed families find the tools needed to teach their babies how to sleep during her overnight support. She loves to create nourishing meals for new parents to keep them energized and help increase milk supply so they can focus on recovering and bonding with their newborn. She makes an impressive “mama plate” (everything you have sliced on a plate for munching) and loves to incorporate the meals from her upbringing like tortilla soup, homemade rice and beans, and bone broth. While she can follow any recipe, she especially likes to make her client families nourishing soup, roasted veggies, quinoa salad, and anything with onions and garlic as a base.
With 2 under 3, Daisy and family enjoy moving outside in all seasons, sitting down for at least one meal together every day, and listening to albums from their favorite movies (currently on repeat are Totoro, Ponyo & Coco). One of her favorite things is the drive to and from work; as a mom of two toddlers, it is a quiet break for her to think, listen to podcasts and music, and just enjoy the silence of not being needed before jumping into caring for those delicious newborn snuggles at night.
Daisy offers overnight support and also some napping doula care time (12-4 usually). If you haven’t considered naptime doula care, it is a combo of sleep for parents and chores for the household, with the doula caring for baby while parents catch up on some missed sleep.
